Trek Goals - Faith
Do five of the following activities (see this post for more information about trek goals) Printable version

Examples could include reading the entire Book of Mormon prior to trek, read 15 minutes daily, including the Ensign, New Era, For the Strength of Youth. It has been a wonderful experience preparing for our upcoming trek. We have felt the influence of the Spirit as we have pondered ideas to make the trek meaningful to you in your life.
In September 1846, in Winter Quarters, Iowa, President Brigham Young called on a number of the brethren to return to Nauvoo and help the last of the remaining Saints who were being driven out at gunpoint. He reminded them of the Nauvoo Covenant, which was that they would leave no one behind. He then stated, "Let the fire of the covenant, which you made in the house of the Lord, burn in your hearts like a flame unquenchable!"
The theme of our trek is "Discovering the Fire of the Covenant." Accordingly, we invite you to participate in earning the Fire of the Covenant award by accomplishing the trek goals. By doing so, you will prepare yourself to understand the sacred nature of the covenants you have made and will make, learn of the sacrifice and diligence required to keep those covenants, and unify our stake in preparing of the pioneer trek.

❏ 5 gallon bucket and lid with your name on it (for carrying personal items, not to exceed 17 pounds)
❏ Sleeping bag
❏ Small foam mattress (no blow up mattresses)
❏ Water container (Camel Back, canteen, etc.)
❏ Personal First Aid kit (moleskin, disinfectant, bandages, etc.)
Clothing (for complete guidelines see this post)
❏ Long skirt (suggest mid-calf to keep from tripping and snagging)

Trek Clothing
The wearing of traditional pioneer clothing when participating on a trek can dd to the spirit and authenticity of the experience. However, the spending of excess money and time on obtaining such clothing is strongly discouraged. Many, if not all the necessary articles of clothing can be found in one's existing wardrobe or at a local thrift store.
Men's Clothing:
Shirts: Cotton, long sleeved, button up, with or without collar, loose fitting.
Pants: Loose fit, cotton, blue/black/gray/brown/beige/tan colors. No blue jeans please.
Suspenders: Optional, adds to authenticity.
Hats: wide brimmed for sun protection (can be straw/felt). No baseball caps please.
Vest: optional.
Women's Clothing:
Shirts: Cotton, long sleeved, button up, loose fitting.
Skirts: Cotton, Mid-calf to top of hiking boot length, wide enough to walk comfortably in.
Pantaloons: light-weight capris or long shorts (between knee & mid calf), or bloomers to wear under skirt or dress. This is a MUST for modesty reasons!

Bonnets: Important for sun protection. Pattern: http://handcart-trek.org/bonnet_pattern.pdf or http://handcart-trek.org/patterns/bonnet.gif
Shoes: Comfortable walking/hiking type ("broke in" for at least 2 months - NO new shoes), bring 2 pair, so if one gets wet or causes blisters the other pair can be worn.
Socks: Clean socks for each day. It is suggested to wear 2 pair of socks at a time to reduce the likelihood of blisters (1 thin, 1 heavier).
Bandanna: Useful for getting wet & wrapping around neck to keep cool or to keep dust out of mouth/nose. Wash before trek or colors may bleed.
Jacket: Lightweight, wind/rainproof.

What NOT to wear: Blue jeans, baseball caps, tank tops, t-shirts, tight/short dresses, brand new shoes
